Jordan Wells is a dynamic freelance Director and Teaching Artist based in the Mid-South, this current season includes projects with Emerald Theatre Company, Opera on the James, Opera Memphis, Nashville Opera, Opera Mississippi, Theatre Memphis and the Orpheum High School Musical Theatre Awards. As owner/operator of JW Performance Studios, Jordan brings over 15 years of expertise to his students, many of whom are active professionals in the performing arts.
Jordan received his B.M. in Vocal Performance from Middle Tennessee State University, where he performed in acclaimed roles such as Tobias in Sweeney Todd, Nick Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Don Curzio in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Ben in The Telephone. During his time at MTSU, he made his professional debut with Nashville Opera in the Grammy™-winning world premiere of Elmer Gantry. Jordan later made his international debut in Urbania, Italy, as a Studio Artist with Si Parla, Si Canta/Eastman School of Music, performing at Teatro Bramante.
He earned his M.M. in Vocal Performance at the University of Memphis, where he held a Graduate Assistantship with the Opera Department and performed in The Tender Land (Martin). Jordan has also worked with Opera North, Red River Lyric Opera, and SongFest in Los Angeles, where he collaborated with notable composers and conductors including John Musto, Jake Heggie, and Grammy™ winner John Harbison.
An experienced Music Director, Jordan has led productions of Singin’ in the Rain, Anything Goes, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and West Side Story, earning multiple Orpheum High School Musical Theatre Awards, including Best Music Direction. He recently music directed I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change at Germantown Community Theatre, which earned multiple Ostrander nominations, including Best Musical Production. As an active music director and accompanist with the Orpheum Theatre Group, Jordan also prepares the Mid-South’s regional representatives for the Jimmy Awards in NYC.
Currently pursuing an MFA in Directing at Randolph College, Jordan continues to work with high schools and theater companies throughout the Mid-South, empowering the next generation of performers.
